About The Author
Meet Richard Herstek
Richard attended Kent State University for several years before transferring to, and graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in Journalism. He went on to work as an advertising copywriter and creative director.
He eventually moved to Paris, and lived there for two years, working with an English language theater company.
In 2010 he earned an MFA in screenwriting at the London Film school.
His scripts have excelled in several notable competitions: Nicholl Fellowships; Creative World Awards; Canada International Film Festival, European International Film Festival and lots of others.
His short films have screened at festivals in Palm Springs, Boston, Hollywood and Portland.
Richard was also a travel writer and a regular contributor to Travelers Roundtable.
His editorial pieces have appeared in several award-winning design magazines: Gum; Lemon: and Wednesday.
The authors who have delighted and inspired him most over the years include John Steinbeck, Barbara Kingsolver, Patrick Radden Keefe, Andre Dubus III, Pip Williams, Alexandre Dumas, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Helene Hanff, Mark Twain, and Somerset Maugham.
He grew up in Ohio but lives on Boston’s north shore now. Other stops along the way have included New York, Washington, DC, Prague, Los Angeles, and Manila.
When he’s not writing, it’s usually because he’s playing pickleball, traveling or trying to learn Italian. It’s a beautiful language, he says, except when he’s speaking it.
“Studio l’Italiano da otto anni, ma parlo ancora come un cavernicolo.”
